Good afternoon!
I am going to be a couple of weeks in Japan for business trip. I should have finished my duties for 3rd of June and I was thinking about climbing the Mt Fuji on 4th (coming from Hamamatsu) or on 6th of June (coming from Kioto).
I have been checking in internet and realized that during june there are not daily public transportation to the any 5th station from Kioto or Hamamatsu.
I can not schedule the travel for the weekend, and the idea I had it is to try to go up and down in the same day. I understand that the most of the people sleep at least 1 night, but I quite short of time and two days, it should be too much. Anyway, I have climbed several over 3,000 mts mountains and I am running 2- 3 times a week lately... So, it should be manageable. Always having respect to the mountain, and if it is necessary, I would stop and come back whenever I felt so.
Could anyone advise about transportation to the 5th station? And it is realistic to think about up/down in the very same day?
Thank you very much in advance for your kind reply,
Cs_edu

REMARKS: I did not mentioned before, but any companion would be more than welcome

How go to Fuji san 5th station from Kakegawa Station (Shinkansen)?

junior on 2013-03-01 13:05:09

From Kakegawa, you can go to Shinfuji (Shinkansen) Station, and take a bus to Mt. Fuji's Fujinomiya 5th Station. http://mountfujiguide.com/blog/4plus/348 (time tables are not up-to-date but should be similar.)

Public Transport Haneda - Mt. Fuji Station (NOT 5th Station, Railway station!)

Hi there,

seems like I am not able to find the most effective way (cost vs. time) to get to Mt. Fuji RAILWAY station - could anybody point me into the right direction? Gekko-ju station would also do...

Thanks!

Help please? On a recent trip to Japan I visited the Yamanashi Gem Museum at Lake Kawaguchiko (http://www.gemmuseum.jp/english/). I fell in love with a gemstone in a pendant in one of the museum display cases (not in the shop). It was simply labelled Rock Crystal but I would like to know its exact name and place of origin. If anyone is going to the museum would they please seek this information for me. I have not been able to find an email address for the Gem Museum and they did not seem to speak much English when I was there. See photos attached. You can reply to me via this post. Thank you in advance for your help with this.

Hi Jude. If I have a chance to visit there I'll check information about the gemstone. In the meantime in the 2nd photo I can read that the major places of its origin are Brazil and Madagascar. A quick google search lead me to this Madagascar gemstone site. http://www.minertown.com/market/crystals/madagascar/index.htm Hope it helps.

Climbing Mt Fuji 16 September, 2012

FORUM TOPIC Pattierdh52

My husband and I plan to climb Mt Fuji on 16 September and want to start early that morning. What is the best means of transportation to Kawajuchiko 5th station? We want to arrive the evening of the 15th but it looks like there is no public transportation then. What other options are there for transportation?

MESSAGE Brenda Cheung

if i can only start my trip on late September and i want to climb up the Mt. Fuji is it possible?

adarshabhinav on 2012-09-14 01:23:30

The last date of climbing Mt Fuji this year is 15th of September...!!!

Not getting the bus times?

FORUM TOPIC Agfa

Hello,

I am planning to climb Mount Fuji in August, and would like to time the ascent to be on top by sunrise. I was going to do that via Gotemba, but looking at the bus time tables ( http://www.japan-guide.com/bus/fuji_season.html ), I'm pretty confused.

The last bus at Gotemba Fifth Station arrives at around 5pm, so with the ascent taking 6-7 hours, I'd be at the top by midnight and probably freeze to death before sunrise. Since Gotemba Fifth is supposedly just a parking lot, waiting there for five hours before starting to climb seems little more attractive. I've also had the idea to possibly rent a bicycle in Gotemba, but there doesn't seem to be a bike rental available (but maybe I've missed it).

Taking the Subashiri trail seems only slightly better, with the last bus arriving at 8pm, and the ascent taking five hours.

What am I missing? Is my impression correct that, for a tourist who doesn't want to spend 10000 yen on a taxi but still see the sun rise, the only real option is going via Kawaguchiko and take the last bus arriving at 10pm?

Thanks!

junior on 2012-07-12 23:23:07

Some people start climbing in the evening, take a nap for a couple hours at a mountain hut, and reach the summit to see sunrise.
Also, in August the trails will be more and more crowded toward the summit, so in some cases it will take longer than the average climbing time.
But I agree with your impression that Kawaguchiko / Fujiyoshida Trail is the most convenient for tourists.
