Cost of travelling from Tokyo to Mt Fuji 5th Station (Kawaguchi) and 4th July climbing ! :)
Posted June 21st, 2009 by Yume
Hi!
Like to find out approx. how much would it cost to travel from Tokyo to Lake Kawaguchi and then to the 5th Station via train/bus.
Wondering if I should pick up the 4,800 pass because it doesn't cover Tokyo to Otsuki train station and I am not intending to use my JR pass yet until later. =/
Anyone intending to climb on 4th July?
Thanks in advance! :)

Yume,
The cheapest way is to take a bus from Shinjuku Bus Terminal to Kawaguchiko train station, which costs 1,700 yen.
The departure times at Shinjuku are:
07:10 07:40 08:10 08:40 09:10 09:40 10:10 10:40 11:10 11:40 12:10 12:40 13:10 14:10 15:10 16:10 17:10 18:10 19:10 20:10
and it takes about an hour and 45 minutes.
The bus from Kawaguchiko train station to 5th station of Kawaguchiko Trail costs 1,500 yen. Here's the timetable for July/August 2009.

Just FYI, you can also go directly to Kawaguchiko Trail 5th station from Tokyo by bus. In July and August, this direct bus runs everyday from Shinjuku (Tokyo). The fare is 2,600 yen, and the timetable for 2009 can be found here:

Thank you!
Unfortunately I would love to catch the fireworks (4th July) but there's no bus from Kawaguchiko to the 5th station at night.
Does anyone know if the fireworks are visible at the 5th station?
TIA!
