I climbed last Sept 14-15 in Mt. Fuji. I thought that it's no longer climbing season but when I reached Kawagochiko 5th station, it was so crowded that I began to wonder that what will be the crowd during climbing season.

I just like to say thanks to Junior for the info provided in this website.

I'm so glad you could enjoy climbing Mount Fuji. I also thank you for providing information like "it's no longer climbing season but when I reached Kawagochiko 5th station, it was so crowded." This kind of "real" information is the most valuable, and cannot be found elsewhere.
Please stop by when you have spare time and share your experience with the people who are willing to climb Mount Fuji :)

Is it safe to climb on Mt. Fuji on Sept. 13-14?

Hi,

I'm planning to climb Mt. Fuji on the days above. I would like to know if it's still safe. I will climb via Kawaguchiko 5th station for ascending and descending. By the way, I'm all alone. I'm hoping that other climbers would be climbing on that day.

hi there!
Although the official climbing season of Mount Fuji is July and August, it's a fact that some mountain huts on Kawaguchiko Trail are open until mid September, and some expert climbers or guidebooks even "unofficially" recommend off-season climbing. So chances are that you may find some companies along the trail. Whether it's safe or not, however, is another matter.
According to Fuji Visitor Center ( http://www.yamanashi-kankou.jp/fujivisi/fujivisi011.html ), when someone asks them if he or she can climb the mountain in September, they first recommend not to climb with the following reasons.
- It becomes very windy in September.
- September is usually a typhoon season in Japan.
- Sometimes it starts snowing in the beginning of September.
- The number of shuttle buses decreases after the official season is ended.

If one still insists, they recommend him or her to submit a climbing plan to Fujiyoshida police station in advance, and have the courage to cancel the plan in case of bad weather. Please remember that off-season climbing is totally at your own risk.

Hi Junior,

Thank you very much for the reply. Looking at the other forums like japan-guide.com, one comment that it's very cold last July. I will monitor the weather before finalizing my plans of ascending Mt. Fuji. I will be arriving Tokyo on Sept. 12.

I'm open not to continue if the weather won't cooperate with my plans.

Is Fujiyoshida police station located at Kawagochi-ko 5th station?

Hi Junior,

I'm looking forward this coming Saturday Sept 13. The only thing that can stop me is the weather. Although I'm not sure which one should I look at if I will be going through Kawaguchiko trail. Is is Shizuoka or Yamanashi? Anybody out there who will climb on the same day as mine? Hope to see you there!

Hi Junior,

I will be coming from Singapore and will arrive on Sept. 12 afternoon. I'm actually monitoring weather almost everyday. I've heard that weather there is quite erratic these days. Right now.. I think it's looking good. I'm still hoping that the weather would cooperate with me :).

Hi,

My name is David and I'm hoping to climb Mount Fuji in the same period (somewhere between 13th and 16th of September).

I'm flying in to Tokyo on the 11th of September and will be staying in Hotel New Koyo for the first couple of days.

I have done a couple of big hikes in South America (Huayna Potosi, Huayhuash Circuit, Torres del Paine Circuit), so I feel comfortable doing it even if it is out of the season.

Let me know if you feel like doing this together (I will not be available from August 30th till September 7th due to Burning Man Festival)
