Climbing 3rd October

FORUM TOPIC climindamountain

Hi,
Just wanting some advise from people who have climbed Mt Fuji.
There are two of us who are reasonably fit and healthy and the current plan is to start the climb early in the morning and reach the summit by early afternoon. Return about half-way down and camp for the night.

As we are outside of the climbing season and there will be no facilities available our main question is will it be possible to find some firewood and have a small fire to camp on the mountain for the night?

Any other advice for climbing at this time of year will also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

where are you starting from?

why not camp mid-mountain on your way up during day 1?
then head for the summit the 2nd day to catch the sunrise...
hang around the top, circle the crater, whatever, head back down the same day.

from about the 5th station down it's tree lined.
above that you'll have low lying shrub which will eventually disappear as you increase in elevation.

best practice is not to rely on a traditional "camp fire."
"firewood" will probably be too wet to use.
it's best to leave little impact on the natural environment.
equip yourself with a portable jetboil or msr outdoor stove.
