Subashiri Trail details and rain advice!

FORUM TOPIC nhoernig

I just climbed this trail today and have some input about it.

First: It's not gentle sloped! Some parts of it are fairly moderate such as between the #6 stations and the beginning of the trail but from Station 8.5 to the top is considerably brutal. It's generally steep and most of the top half is littered with large rocks and such.

Climbing on Monday August 9th. Anyone available?

FORUM TOPIC nhoernig

I posted a topic about going the first or second but because of a scheduling issue, I've had to change my climb date to the 9th.

I also want to climb the Subashiri trail as it's a bit more of a challenge than the Kawaguchi-ko trail, less people, more scenery and possibly an overall better experience.

I'd like to find between 1 to 3 other people interested in making the climb together.

August 1st (or 2nd) Climb! Who's coming with me?

FORUM TOPIC nhoernig

Hello All!

I'm making the climb on Sunday, the first of August or Monday, the second. I'm trying to assemble a small group (no more than 4) to make the climb. I haven't decided a trail or a departure time but I'm looking at a sunrise ascent, possibly getting there early to avoid the crowds I've heard so much about. If anyone is interested, please let me know! I made attempts last year to climb but my sister wasn't able to climb with me so I've had to postpone to 2010.

Amendment: Because of a schedule issue, I'm going to make the climb on the 9th. It's a Monday evening and should be less crowded than a weekend climb. I'm going to make the climb on the Subashiri Trail. It's farther from the top than Kawaguchi - thus making it more of a challenge, it's less crowded (thus more enjoyable) and it has a large amount of greenery and lush trail than the others. It seems like it may very well be the most enjoyable climb. The trail joins up with the Kawaguchi trail so I'm thinking it would be nice to try to get to the top earlier (at least an hour before sunrise). It'll still be crowded but it shouldn't be as bad.

Climbing on August 9th or 10th, anyone in?

FORUM TOPIC nhoernig

I'm interested in making the climb on Sunday the 9th or Monday the 10th. It fits in with my schedule and it shouldn't be as crowded at those points. Anyone interested in joining me?

I'm a 26 year-old American male who also speaks conversational Japanese. Let's go!!!
