Bus to Fujinomya 5th Station from Shizuoka-shi

FORUM TOPIC rae

I'm planning to climb Mt Fuji overnight on July 19, but want to leave from Shizuoka City as I live nearby. Does anyone know of a bus that travels directly from Shizuoka-shi to Fujinomiya 5th Station?

Any help is much appreciated!

rae,

there's a bus from JR Shizuoka station to Mount Fuji's Fujinomiya Trail 5th station.
The 1st one leaves at 9:00 AM and arrives at 11:10 AM. The 2nd one leaves at 15:20 PM and arrives at 17:30 PM. Since there are only 2 buses a day, the bus company recommends to reserve a seat in advance.

Fujikyu Shizuoka Bus Call Center: 0545-71-2660 (probably Japanese only).

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.

I'm hoping to climb overnight and getting there at 5.30pm is a bit early. I might try for one of the buses from Shin-Fuji.

I've been planning my Fuji climb this past week and your site is fantastic! Thank you!

Just one more question... whereabouts is the Tozan bus at Shin-Fuji? I've decided to take a bus to the Fujinomiya 5th Station from there.

Thank you!!

rae,

here's a map of the bus stop at JR Shinfuji Station.

Hope it helps.

Brilliant! Thanks heaps for that. I'm really looking forward to hiking up Mt Fuji after doing the Oxfam Trailwalker Challenge in May. If you love hiking and torturing your body I definitely recommend giving it a go!

When I take the bus to Fujinomiya is it necessary to book a seat in advance? And is there a phone number I can call Tozan on to make a reservation?

Thanks for all your help. This website is fantastic and I'll definitely be making a PayPal donation.

rae,
Tozan buses are operated like a regular bus in Japan--seats are taken on a first-come-first-served basis. The only difference is we have to buy tickets in advance.
Hope you have a wonderful climb.

P.S.
Just for clarification, what I meant by "in advance" is merely "before we get on a bus". Thanks.

Will I need to actually go to Shin-Fuji Station and buy the tickets there in advance, or can I do it on the day?

junior on 2009-07-08 18:56:40

rae,
I'm sorry for the confusion. Buying a ticket right before getting on a bus is OK.

I also found another Web site saying we actually don't even need to buy a ticket--in other words, we can pay by cash in the bus. However, a round-trip ticket can be purchased at a discount rate, so it's probably the best way.

Cheers for the info! I wasn't sure if the bus would full up but I'm sure it will be fine. I'll just get a return ticket at the bus information centre when I get there.

Thanks for all your help!
