Asagiri Plateau (Asagiri Kogen in Japanese) is located at the southwest of Mount Fuji.

The place is best known for pasturing. The vast green meadow, fresh air, and pure water from melting snow of Mount Fuji yield high quality dairy products.

The altitude of Asagiri Plateau is 800 m (2,624 ft) to 1,000 m (3,280 ft). As a result, the temperature is usually about 3 degrees celsius (37.4 degrees fahrenheit) lower than the urban area. In winter, the plateau is often covered by snow.
The name "Asagiri" came from Asa (morning) and Kiri (fog). At the plateau the fog tend to rise in the morning and evening.

Asagiri Plateau is sometimes called "Petit Hokkaido" because the scenery is somewhat similar to Hokkaido, one of the most popular resort places in Japan, although the size is a little bit smaller.
